1 aid worker from WCK killed in Gaza, Israel vows to murder new Hamas leader

World Central Kitchen (WCK), an American aid group, said on Thursday that one of its staff members was killed in the central Gaza Strip.

WCK said in a statement that Palestinian Nadi Sallout was killed near the central city of Deir al-Balah, without providing details about the circumstances of his death. WCK claimed:

“He was an integral member of our warehouse team from the early days of our response in Rafah and a humanitarian at his very core. We are still learning the details of this tragedy, but believe he was off duty at the time.”

On April 1, an Israeli airstrike killed seven aid workers from the group: three Britons, an Australian, a Polish national, a dual US and Canadian citizen and a Palestinian.

The killing has sparked calls for accountability around the world, with many, including WCK founder José Andrés, disputing Israel’s claim that the attack was a “mistake” and a case of “mistaken identity.”

WCK were back after a deadly attack

In late April, WCK executive director Erin Gore said the humanitarian situation in Gaza “remains dire” and announced that relief operations would resume “with the same energy, dignity and focus on feeding as many people as possible.”

In defiance of a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire, Israel has come under international condemnation for its ongoing brutal offensive on Gaza following an attack by Palestinian resistance group Hamas last October.

Since then, more than 39,600 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed and nearly 91,400 injured, according to local health authorities. In 10 months of Israel’s war, vast swathes of Gaza lie in ruins under a brutal blockade of food, clean water and medicine.

Israel threatens new Hamas leader

The Palestinian militant group Hamas has named Yahya Sinwar as the successor to its political leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was assassinated in Tehran a week ago.

News of his appointment came amid heightened tensions in the region as Israel prepares for a likely attack from Iran following Haniyeh’s assassination.

An Israeli army spokesman, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, called Sinwar an “avowed terrorist” and said Israel would continue to pursue him. He also said:

“There is only one place for Yahya Sinwar, it’s next to Mohammed Deif, next to a Ghandour, next to Ayman Nofal (Hamas commanders Israel claimed it has killed), next to all the terrorists that were responsible for the October 7.”

Meanwhile, Israel is accused of genocide by the UN International Court of Justice, which has ordered it to immediately halt its military operation in the southern city of Rafah, where more than 1 million Palestinians were sheltering from the war before it was seized on May 6.
