The bodies of a 32-year-old woman from Ukraine and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, who lived in Dorsten-Holsterhausen, were found on Sunday, German media reported.
A passer-by noticed the bodies on the side of the road at around 6 a.m. At first, she thought the woman was just sleeping, but after calling the police, she discovered the lifeless body of the child nearby.
According to the Recklinghausen police and the Essen public prosecutor’s office, the deaths were the result of violent acts. The only suspect is a 16-year-old Ukrainian man living in Dorsten.
On Sunday evening, he came in to the police and confessed to the murder of his mother and child. The identity of the deceased has been established, she was a Ukrainian citizen.
The motives for the crime have not yet been disclosed, but investigators promise to provide more information as the investigation progresses.
Such tragedies are not isolated incidents. Cases of attacks and violent crimes involving Ukrainian citizens are regularly reported in Germany.
In December 2024, a court in Essen sentenced four people to prison for the murder of two Ukrainian basketball players in February. In March 2024, a Ukrainian family, a mother and her daughter, were murdered in an attempt to kidnap their baby.
