A two-year-old child in India bit a cobra, mistaking it for a toy, Indian media reported on Tuesday.
An unusual incident involving a two-year-old child and a poisonous snake occurred in the Indian state of Bihar. The toddler was playing near his home in the village of Bankatwa when he noticed a 90-centimetre cobra.
The child grabbed the snake, which lunged at him and wrapped itself around his arms. However, instead of being frightened, the boy clamped his teeth onto the reptile’s head. According to the child’s grandmother, the family immediately rushed to help when they saw what was happening.
The adults had to pry the child’s jaws open to free him from the cobra. The snake died on the spot, and the boy lost consciousness after swallowing some of the venom. Relatives quickly took him to the nearest medical centre and then transferred him to a hospital for specialised treatment.
According to the latest information, the child underwent the necessary course of treatment and was discharged from the medical facility.
“Timely medical intervention saved the child’s life,” said Dr. Saurabh Kumar of the state hospital, adding that the victim’s condition is now stable.
