At least 27 Palestinians were killed and many others injured in Israeli airstrikes and drone attacks in different parts of the Gaza Strip on Thursday, Palestinian Civil Defence spokesman in Gaza Mahmoud Basal said.
More casualties from Israeli shelling
11 Palestinians were killed and wounded in an Israeli airstrike on a house belonging to the Hamoud family in Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza, the statement said. In addition, several Palestinians were wounded in another airstrike on a house belonging to the Qasim family in the Al Shaimaa neighbourhood of Beit Lahiya.
The statement added that one Palestinian was killed in an airstrike on a house belonging to the Salman family in Tel al-Zaatar neighbourhood in Jabaliya refugee camp.
An Israeli drone targeted a group of citizens in the Al-Zaytoun neighbourhood of Gaza City, killing one person and injuring others. Israeli artillery continued to bombard Al-Zaytoun and Al-Sabra neighbourhoods in southern Gaza City, the statement added.
In the central Gaza Strip, six Palestinians were killed in an airstrike on a house belonging to the Debka family in al-Maghazi refugee camp, according to Basal’s confirmed information.
An airstrike on a house belonging to the Jadili family in al-Nuseirat refugee camp injured several Palestinians, while several others were wounded in an Israeli strike on a warehouse east of al-Nuseirat. In southern Gaza, five Palestinians were killed and others injured in an airstrike on the Abu Shabab family home in Bani Suheila, east of Khan Younis, according to the statement.
A medical source at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis told Anadolu that the bodies of three Palestinians, including a child, were brought to the hospital after they were killed in an airstrike on a gathering place in the town of Abasan.
The Israeli offensive has killed more than 40,200 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured some 93,000, according to local health authorities.
Yanis Varoufakis, Greece’s former finance minister, wrote on X:
“A cruel game of squares. Have you ever felt like a toy, being played with left & right, east & west, pushed from one place to another – south to Khan Younis, out of Rafah, back to Khan Younis, then to Nuseirat, only to be driven out again?”
Lebanon shelled Israel
Meanwhile, a rocket hit an Israeli Air Force base in the north of the country, Lebanese media reported.
The military says three launches have been identified, two of which were intercepted and one hit Mount Meron.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said it had recorded at least 180 rockets and drones coming from Lebanon during August 20 and 21. Of these, 130 were fired on Tuesday and 50 were fired the following day.
