60 injured in anti-government protest against omnibus law

60 people were injured in clashes between anti-government protesters and security forces, local media reported on Saturday.

Protesters against an omnibus law giving President Javier Milei’s government “exceptional” powers clashed with security forces in Congress Square in the capital Buenos Aires.

Clashes with police left 60 people injured after police used tear gas and water cannon. In addition, six people were detained during the clashes.

Opposition parties criticised Interior Minister Patricia Bullrich, accusing the police of disproportionate use of force.

Trade unions, student groups supported the anti-government protests.

The government is pushing for “exceptional” powers from Congress to take action on the economy, energy, health, education and transport because of the effects of the country’s “deep” crisis.
