A drone strike by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has killed over 70 people in El Fasher, North Darfur. The Sudanese governor reported the incident on Saturday.
Governor Arcua Minnawi said the attack targeted the Saudi Hospital in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur. He explained that the drone strike hit the hospital’s emergency department, killing all patients inside, including women and children.
Minnawi shared images on social media showing extensive damage to the hospital.
The RSF has not yet commented on the attack.
El Fasher is a key centre for humanitarian aid in Darfur. The city has been a conflict hotspot since May 10, despite international efforts to prevent further escalation.
The conflict between the Sudanese army and RSF began in April 2023. Since then, it has claimed over 20,000 lives and displaced 14 million people, according to the UN. A study from US universities estimates the death toll at around 130,000.
Humanitarian organisations have warned that the crisis is deepening. Many people face starvation due to food shortages, and violence has spread across 13 of Sudan’s 18 states.
