For the first time since the war in Gaza began on 7 October, Israel’s military cabinet will meet on Thursday to discuss a plan for who will govern Gaza after the war, The Times of Israel reports.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly repeatedly postponed the discussion, expressing frustration with the Biden administration, which argues that the lack of a plan for who would run Gaza after the war would result in an indefinite stretch.
Netanyahu offered few details of what he would like to see, limiting himself to assertions that Israel would not allow the Palestinian Authority to run Gaza and that the IDF would retain overall security control of the enclave.
Today’s meeting comes days after his top aide, Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, returned from Washington, where he discussed the issue with senior Biden officials, as the US steps up pressure on Jerusalem to curtail hostilities and move on to the next phase of the war.
