Dodgers caught at checkpoints near Kyiv to receive immediate summons

The commandant of Kyiv Region, Ruslan Oliynyk, has said that summonses will be issued to draft evaders at checkpoints recently installed in the region, Ukrainian media reports.

Ruslan Oliynyk stated:

“If a person who evades mobilisation or has not updated his data at the territorial centre for conscription and social support (military commissariat) is detected at a checkpoint, he will receive a summons.”

Earlier, the Ukrainian press reported that the number of checkpoints in Kyiv Region was increasing.

According to the head of the Kyiv city military administration, Serhiy Popko, the checkpoints in Kyiv were set up for training purposes. The scenario suggests that temporary roadblocks with restrictive signs and engineering elements will be set up all over Kyiv.

A representative of the Kyiv City Military Administration (KCMA), Mykhaylo Shamanov, denied the information about the distribution of conscription notices at the city’s checkpoints.

According to him, the KCMA has no information that conscription notices are being distributed at checkpoints. Shamanov noted that information about the locations and possible issuance of draft notices should be obtained from the district territorial centres of conscription (TCC).

A former adviser to the mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk and commander of the Ukrainian battalion, Nazariy Kishak, earlier said that special checkpoints for handing in summonses would be set up in all cities and regions of Ukraine by the end of December.

Volodymyr Zelensky first raised the issue of a new large-scale mobilization with figures at a press conference on 19 December: he said that the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had approached him with a request to mobilize another 450,000-500,000 people.
