Hungary said it would not veto an increase in the European Peace Facility, which finances arms supplies to Ukraine, but it would not take part in its work.
Hungarian Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Minister Peter Szijjarto, who was at an informal meeting with his EU counterparts in Brussels, said the following: “Since arms deliveries are a red line for us, we will not take part in,” adding that Hungary “cannot and will not prevent others.”
In addition, Szijjarto also reminded that Hungary is one of the few European Union countries that does not send arms to Ukraine and does not intend to supply arms there in the future, as Hungary does not want to be involved.
Earlier, at a summit in Brussels on 1 February, EU leaders failed to make a decision on increasing the European Peace Facility by €5 billion to help Ukraine, which was insisted on by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the EU’s diplomatic chief Josep Borrell. The issue was subsequently postponed until March.
