Ukraine signed “security assurances” agreement with Germany

Germany and Ukraine signed a bilateral security agreement on Friday, a German government spokesman reported.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz will host President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Federal Chancellery. As part of the talks, a bilateral agreement will be signed on security assurances and long-term support for Ukraine.

The security agreement was signed in Berlin following a meeting between the chancellor of Germany, the second largest arms supplier to Ukraine after the USA, Olaf Scholz, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Zelensky’s meeting with the German and French leaders comes amid growing concern in Kyiv over the possible withdrawal of US military support.

In recent weeks, the Ukrainian president has appealed to European allies for additional support and warned that the Ukrainian army faces a critical shortage of ammunition, especially artillery shells.
