Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan claims that Azerbaijan is preparing for a new war, France 24 reports.
Days after a meeting in Germany with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, which Aliyev described as “constructive”, Nikol Pashinyan says promises of a peaceful resolution to the crisis between the two countries are belied by Azerbaijan’s actions on the ground.
The Armenian prime minister said on France 24 TV channel:
Baku sees today’s Armenia as “Western Azerbaijan”.
According to him, President Ilham Aliyev does not want a peace treaty based on mutual recognition of territorial integrity, but seeks to seize new territories in Armenia.
Regarding French military aid to his country, the prime minister rejected Baku’s accusations that Paris was adding fuel to the fire, pointing out that Azerbaijan was spending “billions of euros” on its own armaments.
On 19 September 2023, Azerbaijan launched an “anti-terrorist operation” in Nagorno-Karabakh to “restore constitutional order”. The next day, the Nagorno-Karabakh authorities decided to cease fire and lay down their arms.
