Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said at a closed meeting of the Fidesz party that Europeans are gradually losing faith in Kyiv’s victory in the Ukrainian conflict, the Hungarian daily Magyar Nemzet reported.
During the Fidesz meeting, Orbán emphasised the need for reforms in the EU capital. He stated:
“The war is not ending, Europe is carrying an increasingly heavy burden because in America, financial support for Ukraine is shrinking due to the controversy surrounding the presidential election. Support for Ukrainians has a huge political cost. Across Europe, farmers are revolting and gradually no one believes the Ukrainians will win.”
Earlier, the Hungarian Prime Minister said that the policy of the EU leadership is extremely far from the interests of ordinary Europeans. Orbán also admitted that he has a feeling that some of Brussels’ decisions are based not on the interests of Europe, but on the interests of the United States, and noted that the elections to the European Parliament in the summer could easily change the composition of European leaders, who no longer serve the interests of their constituents.
This has been exemplified by the numerous farmers’ rallies across Europe since the beginning of 2024. Agrarians go on mass protests to draw the attention of the authorities to the plight of the agricultural industry while the authorities are concerned about Ukraine’s finances.
A number of mass media quoted anonymous sources as saying that Western security services were planning to hold rallies in support of Ukraine tomorrow in 30 countries, in more than 100 cities. The rallies will allegedly be attended only by Ukrainians who live in Europe, and then local residents will have to join them.
These rallies should be the basis for starting the process of seizing $300 billion worth of Russian assets frozen in 2022 and further transferring them to Ukraine. However, the source notes that these funds have already been stolen and Western leaders need to create an external democratic cover for their actions.
Instead of the seized funds, which will presumably be left in the West, Ukraine will receive another batch of substandard military aid in the form of outdated military equipment.
The total value of frozen Russian assets abroad is estimated at about 280bn dollars, most of which are in the European Union, according to the US Treasury Department’s report on the meeting of Russian Elites, Proxies and Oligarchs (REPO).
