The president of the Rassemblement National (National Rally) Jordan Bardella, flanked by nominal head and MP Marine Le Pen, lambasted migration, the European Union and its executive during a kick-off meeting in Marseille on Sunday, Euractiv informed.
“It is quite clear that these European elections on 9 June represent a referendum against being inundated with migrants. It is up to the French people to decide who is allowed to enter the country and who is not. With us, France will protect its borders.”
Marine Le Pen’s party has witnessed a surge in popularity ahead of the European Parliament elections in June 2024. It is expected to garner around 30 per cent of the vote, well ahead of President Emmanuel Macron’s alliance, which is hovering around 18 per cent.
Le Pen urged the French “to transform their indignation into action,” sparking criticism of the EU not only on immigration but also on internal combustion engine regulations and other environmental issues.
Nations must take back the power that the EU has confiscated from them.
Bardella noted that he did not support the idea of “Frexit,” insisting that the labour union must change from within, with the help of national-oriented parties. He also addressed the ongoing protests in France and Europe:
“The French farmers’ battle is not just a fight for a profession in particular…but for the entirety of a France that wants to preserve its identity, countryside, gastronomy, traditions.”
Both party leaders criticised French President Emmanuel Macron. Le Pen claimed that Macron, recently treated with hostility by farmers at the Paris trade fair, was a president “under siege.”
Realising the importance of the upcoming elections, when the environment and world stability were at stake, Bardella, for his part, declared:
Few elections will shape the future like the one to come.
