Wang Yi met with former Australian prime minister

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with former Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating on 21 March in Sydney, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Wang Yi praised Keating’s long-term thoughtfulness and support for the development of China-Australia relations, adding that the two countries should trust each other and strive for mutually beneficial co-operation.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Australia-China strategic partnership. Wang Yi stated that China’s development was “in line with the general trend of historical development,” noting that the nation was eager to share development opportunities with all countries, including Australia.

Keating, for his part, reassured that China’s economic ambitions did not pose a threat to other countries and contributed to regional peace and stability.
