President of the Republic of Finland, Alexander Stubb, approved the acts on the adoption and entry into force of the NATO Forces Agreement Status and the Paris Protocol, as well as relevant amendments to certain national laws on 22 March, according to the Finnish Foreign Ministry’s website.
The NATO Status of Forces Agreement concerns the legal status of the forces of an Alliance member state when they are stationed on the territory of another member state in connection with their official duties.
The Protocol on the Status of International Military Headquarters and the Paris Protocol extend the provisions of the NATO Status of Forces Agreement to Allied headquarters and their military and civilian personnel.
Finland will join the agreement by depositing its accession documents with the US government. The amendments will enter into force 30 days after the date of deposit.
Stubb also confirmed the acts bringing the agreements into force and incorporating them into Finnish law, as well as relevant amendments to certain national laws. Some of them will enter into force on 1 April 2024 and others on 27 April 2024.
