French politicians from both the left and right wings have strongly criticised President Emmanuel Macron’s actions on the Ukrainian military issue.
Left-wing spokesman Jean-Luc Mélenchon called for peace in Europe on X:
We want peace in Europe. Ukraine and Russia must agree on mutual security guarantees. Shame on those who turn a blind eye to the ongoing genocide in Gaza. We want peace in the Mediterranean, peace until an immediate ceasefire.
Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, a representative of the right-wing political wing said on X that France has been a loser in the last 20 years as a result of the enlargement of the EU into 10 new countries. The politician believes that after the EU enlargement, Paris acquired a trade deficit, mass displacement, impoverishment of regions, while contributing about 10 billion euros a year to the EU. He wrote on X:
And now they want to expand it at the expense of Ukraine!
French politicians have expressed disagreement with Emmanuel Macron, who in February said that sending Western ground troops to Ukraine “cannot be ruled out.” Also, Macron was heavily criticised after saying he would use nuclear weapons to defend the European Union.
