From the Arc de Triomphe to the intersection with Avenue George V, nine wonderful kitchens will accompany the journey along the famous Champs-Élysées for a gastronomic picnic on the world’s largest picnic blanket, Paris reports.
LG Electronics is sponsoring this massive eating and walking event on 26 May, when 4,000 happy tourists and locals will have the opportunity to gather around a giant traditional red and white checkered picnic mat and sample Parisian cuisine.
Each visitor is given a picnic basket to enjoy samples from the nine kitchens, and each square on the giant checkered rug can accommodate 6 people. There are also musical events, games and other outdoor ambiance setters.
Those interested can get an early look at some of the €300 million renovations that architect Philippe Chiambaretta is planning for the Champs-Élysées after the Olympics, which City Hall admitted looked “worn out” back in 2021.
Guests who are lucky enough to win a place through voting will be able to attend one of two sessions, either at 12 noon or 2 p.m. Up to six people from the same family or group can vote for the opportunity to have a picnic together. All entries will be sent to a prize draw and those lucky enough to win a place on the Parisienne picnic blanket will be informed in May.
The picnic is likely to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records, given that the event will take place over an area of 4,212 square metres, possibly making it the largest ever held.
The plan is to halve the number of car parking spaces, turn some roads into pedestrian zones and decorate the whole area with an “extraordinary garden.”
