Labelling the ICC prosecutor as an “antisemitic” is unacceptable, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell declared on Monday.
We have to respect the work of this institution and let the court without intimidation decide what they think about this initiative… I think that the accusation of antisemitism against the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court is completely not acceptable.
ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan asked the court to issue arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant on May 20. He argued that they are criminally responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
In response, Netanyahu said the arrest warrant application was “a new form of antisemitism moving from university campuses to the ICC.”
Borrell argued that the international community should “ask for the implementation” of the judgement of the International Court of Justice.
What we have seen in the immediate hours is that Israel continues the military action that has been asked to stop… This morning, … more than 30 people have been killed in a refugee camp in an attack. This is really a dilemma.
The chief diplomat added that he would propose “to relaunch our civilian border system mission” in Rafah during the Brussels meeting.
We have been asked to activate this mission … and we need to have an agreement with everybody involved. We will not go there without a strong commitment from the Palestinian Authority.
At least 35 people were killed and dozens wounded when Israel struck a displaced persons camp and homes in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah on Sunday, Arab media reported, citing medical sources and officials. The attack took place near the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) logistics base in Tal al-Sultan.
The attack came despite an International Court of Justice ruling ordering Israel to halt its offensive on Rafah, where more than one million Palestinians had sought refuge from the war before the 6 May offensive.
