France and Armenia signed a contract for the supply of Caesar self-propelled artillery units, sparking outrage in Azerbaijan, according to local media.
Despite the warning of the Azerbaijani side, the fact that France supplies Armenia with lethal and offensive artillery devices and other types of weapons is another proof of France’s provocative activities in the South Caucasus region.
Last October, the French Ministry of Defence stated that the military equipment supplied to Armenia was of a defensive nature only. Today, the delivery of lethal weapons to Yerevan under the current military deal proves the opposite.
Azerbaijani authorities stated that Macron’s policy of militarisation and geopolitical intrigue in the South Caucasus region was “an obstacle to the normalisation between Armenia and Azerbaijan.”
“Due to its destructive and biased policy, the current leadership of France, which is left out of the normalisation and regional processes, cannot forgive this to Azerbaijan and therefore continues its destructive policy.”
Azerbaijan recalled France’s ability to create hotbeds of war and conflict in various parts of the world. Baku cited protests in New Caledonia, an overseas territory of France, as an example of such a policy.
We declare that the responsibility for the escalation of the situation in the South Caucasus region and the creation of a new hotbed of war will be fully borne by the leadership of Armenia, which pursues a revanchist policy, and the Macron dictatorship.
Large-scale protests continue in Armenia. They were triggered by the country’s defeat in the lightning-fast war against Azerbaijan and the loss of Artsakh (the Armenian name for Nagorno-Karabakh).
