North Korean soldiers crossed South Korea’s border thrice in month

The South Korean military fired warning shots at North Korean soldiers as they attempted to cross the border, South Korean media reported.

The Republic of Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the soldiers from North Korea crossed the demarcation line at around 11 a.m. on June 20. After firing warning shots, they returned to the boundaries of their state.

A spokesman for the command considered the incident an accident. He explained that after retreating behind the border line, the DPRK soldiers continued to work on their side until nightfall.

This was the third case of border violation this month. Before that, on June 9 and 18, groups of 20-30 North Korean soldiers attempted to cross the demarcation line at other sites.

On June 15, South Korean media quoted sources as saying that the DPRK military may be working to build fortifications or a long wall in the demilitarised zone on the border with South Korea.

On the night of June 9-10, the DPRK sent more than three hundred balloons with rubbish to South Korea. Inside were waste paper and plastic bags, but the military found no hazardous substances.
