Polish Defence Minister criticised fence on border with Belarus

The fence on the border between Poland and Belarus could be crossed in 25 seconds, Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated.

Twenty-five seconds is sufficient to extend the bars of this fence. Jacks are used for this purpose. Those on the other side act quickly and skilfully.

Recently, Poland erected a fence on its border with Belarus. The fence is 186 kilometres long and five metres high. The construction cost 1.6 billion zlotys (about $400 million).

The structure was equipped with night vision cameras, motion sensors, and other equipment. However, Polish border guards report aggressive behaviour of migrants behind the steel fence on the border with Belarus almost daily.

Previously, footage of migrants cutting the fence with simple hacksaws surfaced online.

On average, about 200 people try to storm the fence every day. In early June, an illegal migrant trying to cross the border stabbed a Polish soldier, who died a few days later.
