Iranian acting FM departs for New York

Acting Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani left Tehran for New York on Monday morning to attend two UNSC meetings, Iranian media reported.

Bagheri Kani, heading a delegation, is scheduled to attend a UN Security Council meeting on the issue of Palestine as well as another UNSC meeting on multilateralism.

Both meetings will be chaired by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who is the rotating chair of the UN Security Council.

The presidency of the UNSC passed to Russia on July 1, 2024. The central events of the Russian presidency are expected to take place in the middle of the month and will focus on building a more just, democratic and sustainable world order, the Middle East settlement, as well as UN co-operation with the CSTO, CIS and SCO.

Iranian government cabinet appointed on May, 20 Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani as acting foreign minister following the death of Hossein Amirabdollahian in a helicopter crash.
