Four killed in shooting at Oman mosque

A shooting near a mosque in Oman’s capital Muscat left four people dead, according to Arab media.

A brief statement from the country’s police said “a number” of people were also injured in the al-Wadi al-Kabir neighbourhood. Officers responded to the incident and an investigation was underway, the statement added on Tuesday.

Police did not provide further details, but at least one gunman reportedly opened fire with an assault rifle.

All security measures have been put in place to deal with the situation, and procedures for collecting evidence are being completed as part of the investigation.

Such violence is rare in Oman, located on the predominantly Muslim Arabian Peninsula.
