US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said on Friday he spoke on the phone with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky and promised to end the country’s war with Russia.
Trump wrote on the Truth Social network:
“I am grateful to President Zelensky for getting in touch because as your next president of the United States, I will bring peace to the world and end the war that has cost so many lives and destroyed countless innocent families.”
According to him, “both sides will be able to come together and make a deal that will end the violence and pave the way for prosperity.”
Zelensky for his part confirmed the call, during which he congratulated Trump on his official nomination as the Republican Party’s presidential nominee and wished the 78-year-old president well after the attempt on his life a week ago. He wrote on his page on X:
“I spoke with Donald Trump to congratulate him on the Republican nomination and condemn the shocking assassination attempt in Pennsylvania. I wished him strength and absolute safety in the future. I noted the vital bipartisan and bicameral American support for protecting our nation’s freedom and independence.”
Trump repeatedly promised to end the conflict in Ukraine as part of his election programme, which he blamed incumbent US President Joe Biden for causing. Also, Trump said that Biden’s policies could soon drag the US into the third world war. He also promised to “deal” with the multi-billion dollar payments intended for Ukraine. Trump not only criticised the financial aid given to Volodymyr Zelensky, but also promised to change this situation if he wins the election.
