Hottest day ever recorded on July 21, C3S says

The European Climate Change Service Copernicus (C3S) has recorded a new temperature record, which exceeded last July’s record by 0.1 degrees Celsius.

According to the service, the average surface air temperature on July 21 exceeded the record by only 0.1°C, reaching 17.09°C. Scientists have been making observations since 1940.

The C3S said that April 2024 was the 11th consecutive month of record-breaking heat waves on Earth.

According to C3S, global temperatures last month were 1.58 °C above historical averages, making it the hottest April on record. In addition, over the past 12 months, the Earth’s temperature has risen 1.61 °C above pre-industrial levels, exceeding the safe warming threshold of 1.5 °C.

C3S calculations are based on measurements from satellites, aircraft, ships and weather stations around the world to produce monthly and seasonal forecasts.

Earlier, scientists found that industrial emissions cuts in China have intensified the heatwave in the North Pacific.

The past 12 months have been the warmest on record for the planet. 2023 has already been labelled the warmest year since records began. 2024 could break that record, the researchers said in their forecast.
