Xi Jinping, Putin greeted Kim Jong Un amid anniversary

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin sent greetings to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on the anniversary of North Korea’s founding.

Putin stated:

I am sure that the comprehensive strategic partnership between Russia and the DPRK [North Korea] will be strengthened in a planned way thanks to our joint efforts.

In his message, Xi called for deeper strategic communication and co-operation with North Korea.

Last year, Kim marked the country’s founding day on 9 September with a paramilitary parade and diplomatic exchanges, during which he pledged to deepen ties with China and Russia.

The Chinese leader also met with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in Beijing on Monday. Xi said Beijing was willing to work with Oslo to develop friendly co-operation. He also asked to convey his greetings to King Harald V.

Xi Jinping said China would bring stability and certainty to a world full of change and turmoil and create more opportunities for the common development of all countries.
