About 4.1m Ukrainian citizens outside the bloc were granted temporary protection in the EU as of the end of July, according to Eurostat.
Germany received 1.1 million of those fleeing the war in Ukraine at the end of July, representing 26.9 per cent of the EU total. However, the temporary protection of 236,900 Ukrainians was no longer in force or they had left the country, as the number of people under temporary protection fell by 17.6 per cent compared to the previous month.
Meanwhile, Poland received 10,400 Ukrainians while the Czech Republic welcomed 369,600, the regional statistics office reported.
The number of Ukrainians under temporary protection rose by 1.1 per cent in Poland, 2.4 per cent in the Czech Republic and 2.6 per cent in Romania. The figures fell by 11 per cent in Luxembourg and 0.8 per cent in France.
Ukrainians made up 98 per cent of people under EU temporary protection at the end of July.
