UK receives $10.5bn investment from Amazon to boost growth

The UK confirmed an £8 billion ($10.45 billion) investment from Amazon Web Services (AWS) to build, operate, and maintain data centres.

The Treasury reported on Wednesday that the investment would create 14,000 jobs annually and contribute £14 billion ($18.3 billion) to UK GDP over the next five years.

Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves welcomed the investment as a significant step towards economic recovery and part of the government’s long-term plan to boost British economic growth.

Reeves emphasised that the government’s mission had only just begun and that economic challenges were still ahead. However, Parliament is in turmoil amid discussions to cut winter fuel payments for UK pensioners.

According to AWS, this contribution will drive innovation, increase productivity, and support the transformation of the UK digital economy.
