Italian politicians lambasted Stellantis’ offer of discounted Maserati for downsized workers

Italy’s party leaders, including former Prime Minister and head of the Five Star Movement (M5S) Giuseppe Conte, criticised a Stellantis‘ email sent to workers, who faced redundancy, offering to buy a Maserati worth between €100,000 and €200,000 at a discount.

According to Agenzia Nova, carmaker Stellantis wrote an email to Italian employees offering to buy a Maserati car in September “under dedicated conditions for oneself, family and friends.” The email, signed by the Maserati team, claimed that employees could choose “between the Grecale, GranTurismo and GranCabrio models.” Azione party leader Carlo Calenda stated:

Stellantis offering Maserati at special prices to workers on redundancy is not only an insult but also proof that it is a company in disarray and that Maserati is in a pitiful state. Enough is enough. Meloni must call Elkann e Tavares at Palazzo Chigi.

The vice president of the Green and Left Alliance in the Chamber, Mark Grimaldi, said the party would demand “also in defence of the dignity of those who work, for a report from Minister Urso because we do not accept this bullying.”

Conte called for decisive action on X, including co-operation, to save Italy’s factories and current employment.

These are things out of this world. We support the reasons why workers will go on strike on October 18 and take to the streets in response to a serious situation, with production at a minimum and redundancy payments. By now, our entire automotive supply chain – a historic and excellent production – has been completely gutted.
