Germany arrests Chinese woman on suspicion of spying

The German Federal Prosecutor’s Office arrested a Chinese woman in Leipzig on Monday who allegedly worked for Chinese intelligence services.

The suspect, named only as Yaqi X., allegedly denounced another Chinese spy, now arrested, Jian G., who worked in the office of German MEP Maximilian Krah.

According to the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, X. allegedly spied on members of the Chinese opposition in Germany, as well as passed to the secret service information about negotiations and decisions in the European Parliament. The arrested X. is alleged to have. provided him with information on flights, cargo and passengers at the airport where she worked from mid-August 2023 to mid-February 2024.

German federal prosecutors stated that she worked for a logistics services company. The information transmitted concerned, among other things, the transport of military equipment and people associated with a German defence company.

The Chinese woman is known to have been arrested on Monday and brought before an investigating judge at the Federal Court of Justice. She was taken into custody and her home and workplace were searched. The woman is suspected of acting as an agent of China’s secret service.
