Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, both relative newcomers to national politics, will meet on Tuesday for the only scheduled vice presidential debate before the November election.
The debate will come three weeks after former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris held their only scheduled debate.
The TV duel will take place on CBS News at 9 p.m. local time and will last 90 minutes. According to the established rules, the event will take place without spectators in the hall.
According to US media, Ohio Senator Vance began preparing for the debate more than a month ago. For the competition he is preparing with a small team, which includes advisers, as well as his wife. It is noted that the Republican has familiarised himself with Walz’s debate style, and in his speech will focus on their joint plan with presidential candidate Donald Trump “how to make life better for Americans.”
For his part, Minnesota Governor Walz is also preparing with a team of his aides. It is indicated that they have previously worked out Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ debate performance. Walz is expected to continue presenting himself to the American people as he is not as well known as Harris in the US. He will also focus on Kamala Harris’ plans for the country’s development in his speech.
The debate will take place against the backdrop of high-profile news unfolding at home and abroad, including efforts by US authorities to rebuild devastated cities in the wake of Hurricane Helene, as well as the escalating situation in the Middle East.
The debate can be watched on the free  CBS News app on a connected TV or smartphone, on  Paramount+, and on all platforms where CBS News 24/7 is available, including CBSNews.com and YouTube.
