Musk became “mega donor” for Republicans by donating $75m for Trump

Elon Musk gave about $75 million to his spending group in support of Donald Trump over a three-month period, according to Reuters.

America PAC, focused on attracting voters in swing states, spent about $72 million between July and September, according to reports filed with the Federal Election Commission. That is more than any other pro-Trump superparty focused on voter engagement.

Musk, CEO of electric vehicle maker Tesla, was the group’s only donor during that period. He endorsed Trump in July and appeared with him at a rally in Pennsylvania earlier this month.

On Wednesday, the SpaceX owner announced that he would be “giving a series of talks” across Pennsylvania. To attend his appearances from “tomorrow night through Monday,” people need only sign a petition on his America PAC website.

His donations to America PAC propel Musk into an exclusive club of Republican mega-donors, a list that also includes banking heir Timothy Mellon and casino billionaire Miriam Adelson. America PAC aims to encourage Americans who like Trump but are not always voting to cast their ballots, a risky and time-consuming campaign strategy for the former US president.
