Britain’s King Charles III’s son Prince Harry and his wife American actress Meghan Markle have bought a holiday home in Portugal after being evicted from their Windsor cottage and left without a home in the UK due to a row with the King.
Harry and Meghan have bought a holiday home in Portugal, the media reported. It comes after the king demanded the couple leave Frogmore Cottage – their home in the UK – following the publication of Harry’s sensational memoir, Spare.
After leaving the royals in 2020, Harry and Meghan moved to Montecito, California, where they still live with their children, Archie and Lilibet.
According to the Mail, their new property in Europe is an attempt to establish themselves on this side of the Atlantic. Buying a property in Portugal could possibly allow Harry and Meghan to get a “golden visa,” which would give them visa-free access to the EU’s Schengen Area.
Meghan began applying for British citizenship when she got engaged to Harry in 2017. However, she abandoned the process after they moved to the US.
In March last year, the Sussexes confirmed they were leaving Frogmore Cottage. A spokesman said:
“We can confirm The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been requested to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage.”
Frogmore Cottage was gifted to Harry and Meghan by the late Queen Elizabeth in 2018, shortly after their wedding.
