The ANO party (Patriots for Europe), led by former Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, is set to dominate parliamentary elections scheduled for autumn 2025 with 35.5 per cent of the vote, according to Czech media.
Babiš rejected speculation of a partnership with smaller groups such as the Communist Party or the Motorists’ Party.
We need to get 2.4 million votes (…) That would mean 44% of the vote. If we get that, no one can bypass us, and we can govern with some form of tolerance.
The party pulled far ahead of the current ruling Civic Democratic Party (ECR), headed by conservative Prime Minister Petr Fiala. His party is expected to garner 14.5 per cent. Meanwhile, support for the STAN party (EPP) rose to 13 per cent. It is followed by the Freedom and Direct Democracy party (ESN) with 6.5 per cent of the vote.
The Pirate Party (Greens/EFA), recently out of government, reportedly barely broke the 5 per cent threshold needed to enter the Czech parliament.
Polling data also showed a sharp decline in support for the Pirate Party, as many of its former voters switched to STAN and the Civic Democrats. Analysts attribute this to the Pirates’ withdrawal from government and dissatisfaction with their policies.
