More than half of Germans favour snap elections in Germany

More than half of Germans want the government of Chancellor Olaf Scholz to resign early, without waiting for the next elections to the Bundestag, set for September next year, a poll commissioned by the German TV channel ARD showed.

According to the survey, 54 per cent of German residents are in favour of early resignation of the government and early parliamentary elections, while 41 per cent are against.

At the same time, 86 per cent of respondents are dissatisfied with the Scholz government to a greater or lesser extent, and first of all the dissatisfaction concerns the budgetary, financial and economic policy of the Scholz cabinet.

Who Germans are prepared to vote for

If elections to the Bundestag were held next Sunday, all three ruling parties would have no chance of remaining in power. 16 per cent would vote for the Social Democrats, 11 per cent for the Greens, and 4 per cent for the FDP Liberals.

Meanwhile, the opposition bloc of Christian parties CDU/CSU is ready to support 34 per cent of voters (3 percentage points more than a month earlier). This is the highest figure since February 2021. At the same time, only one in four respondents believe that the CDU/CSU-led government can better solve current problems.

The Alternative for Germany (AdG) is ready to choose 17 per cent of respondents, Sarah Wagenknecht’s Union – 6 per cent and all other political forces, including the Left Party – 12 per cent.
