Mexico’s unemployment rate declines to 2.9 per cent in September

Mexico’s unemployment rate fell to 2.9 per cent in September from the previous month, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) released on Friday.

The figure was below market expectations of 3% and down 0.1 percentage point from 3% in August.

The economically active population totalled 61.2 million, INEGI said in a statement.

In September, 59.4 million people, or 97.1 per cent, were employed among the economically active population, up 335,000 from the same month in 2023.

The unemployed population totalled 1.8 million and the unemployment rate was 2.9 per cent of the economically active population.
