Syrian army launches counter-offensive against militants near Aleppo

The Syrian army launched a counter-offensive against Al-Nusra Front militant positions in southeastern Idlib, according to Al Mayadeen.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that armed groups, based in northern Syria, launched an offensive against government forces in rural areas in western Aleppo province on Thursday. On the same morning, the Syrian Defence Ministry admitted that the groups launched a “major attack on a wide front” in Aleppo and Idlib.

According to local media, a total of about 20 villages have come under the control of the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) group and allied factions, with Syrian army casualties totalling at least 100 militants.

Syria’s Defence Ministry then stated that the country’s army responded to the attack and the rebels suffered heavy losses in equipment and manpower.
