French President Emmanuel Macron has accepted the request of the Prime Minister of the Republic Michel Barnier to resign after a vote of no confidence from Parliament, the Elysee Palace reported on Thursday.
“Prime Minister Barnier today submitted a request for the resignation of his government to President Macron, who took this decision,” the statement said.
In addition, the French leader asked Barnier and his government to temporarily stay in office until a new prime minister of the country is appointed.
Earlier in the lower house of Parliament (National Assembly) of France voted in favour of a resolution of no confidence in the government of Michel Barnier. Such a case occurs in the republic for the first time since 1962.
