Five killed in Northern France shootings

A series of shootings in northern France have left five people dead, including two near a migrant camp. A 22-year-old man has surrendered to police, French media reported.

The attacks began in Wormhout, where the suspect allegedly shot one person. Later, he fatally shot two security guards and two migrants along the Loon-Plage coastline near Dunkirk, according to unnamed sources.

Police found weapons in the suspect’s car. Dunkirk Mayor Patrice Vergriete called the incident a “tragedy,” saying the attacker had “coldly murdered several people.” However, the motive remains unclear.

Xavier Bertrand, president of the regional council, confirmed five deaths and described the shootings as a “tragic event.”

Emergency services gathered near a migrant camp close to the shootings. Reports have not clarified whether any attacks took place inside the settlement.

Loon-Plage is home to temporary camps housing migrants. Its location near Calais and the Strait of Dover makes it a key area for those attempting to cross into the UK in small boats.
