Houthis claim hypersonic missile attack against Tel Aviv

The Houthis struck a hypersonic missile at a military target in Tel Aviv, Ansar Allah spokesman Yahya Sarea said in his Telegram channel.

“The Yemeni armed forces struck a military target of the Israeli enemy near occupied Jaffa (Tel Aviv) with a Palestine-2 ballistic hypersonic missile,” his statement said.

Israel’s military confirmed the attack and reported the interception of one of the missiles by an air defence system.

However, details about the exact number of rockets launched or possible damage were not specified. In a press release, the army command emphasised its readiness to respond to any threats from the southern direction.

Following the attack, it became known about the temporary closure of Ben-Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv.

According to Israeli sources, this measure was taken for the safety of passengers and to prevent possible consequences of the strike. The airport, a key transport hub for the country, has regularly found itself at the centre of similar situations over the past months.

On December 10, Sarea said that rebels attacked the Israeli city of Ashkelon and the Jaffa district of Tel Aviv using drones.

Earlier, the Houthis launched three strikes on Israeli territory in 48 hours.

Since October 2023, when Israel launched an operation against Hamas in response to the Palestinian movement’s attacks, the Houthis have been shelling ships in the Red Sea and attacking Israel. Air raids against the Houthis were also carried out by the Israeli Air Force.
