Poland to receive €9.4bn from EU recovery fund

Poland intended to secure the second and third tranches of its PLN 40bn (€9.4bn) reconstruction funds by the end of December, Minister of Funds and Regional Policy Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz announced.

The recovery funds will [now] go to nurseries, developing fast internet connections, insulating buildings, modernising power grids and building wind farms, among other things.

The payments were postponed amid the EU Commission’s concerns about the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary in Poland under the previous government. As a result, Warsaw focused on judicial reforms to ensure independence from political influence.

According to the Ministry of Finance and Regional Policy, the funds will be invested in energy efficiency of houses and flats, reliable and sustainable transport, digital infrastructure for education, new energy sources to improve Poland’s energy security and modernisation of the electricity grid.
