Israel has broken all the rules of war in Gaza, the commissioner general of the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) said on Sunday, as the Israeli army killed at least 14 more Palestinians, including five guards of aid trucks, and wounded dozens more in several airstrikes and shelling across the Gaza Strip on Monday morning.
UNRWA chief says Israel has broken all rules of war in Gaza
Israel has broken all rules of war in the Gaza Strip, the commissioner general of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) said on Sunday.
Philippe Lazzarini noted the ongoing violations in the enclave, where Israel has continued its attacks for the past 14 months. His post on page X reads:
“Escalation in the last 24 hours. More civilians killed and wounded are reported. Attacks on schools and hospitals have become commonplace. The world should not go numb. All wars have rules. All these rules have been broken.”
Lazzarini also emphasised that a ceasefire in Gaza was “long overdue” and called for a halt to the attacks to protect civilians.
Israel launched its war in Gaza on October 7, 2023, killing more than 45,200 people, mostly women and children. Last month, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defence minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the enclave. Israel also faces a genocide case in the International Court of Justice for its war in Gaza.
5 guards escorting aid trucks among 14 killed, dozens injured in Israeli attacks in Gaza
A medical source told Anadolu that five Palestinians guarding aid trucks were killed in the western city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip and more than 20 others were injured in an Israeli airstrike.
According to Palestinians, the Israeli army has killed more than 720 Palestinian police and security personnel guarding aid trucks in Gaza since the start of Israel’s war against Gaza last October.
On Monday morning, the Israeli army also struck a vehicle in the western city of Khan Younis, killing two Palestinians, according to a medical source.
In the central Gaza Strip, Al-Awda Hospital said the bodies of four Palestinians and 12 others wounded were taken to the hospital after an Israeli airstrike on the northern neighbourhood of Nuseirat refugee camp. Another Palestinian was killed in an Israeli shelling of a school housing displaced people in the western part of Nuseirat refugee camp.
An Israeli airstrike on a house in eastern Gaza City killed one Palestinian and injured several others, according to the Palestinian Civil Defence.
In the northern Gaza Strip, an Israeli airstrike on a house in Jabalia Nazlah neighbourhood killed one Palestinian and injured another.
Meanwhile, according to eyewitnesses, the Israeli army continues to strike Kamal Adwan Hospital and its neighbourhood. The Israeli army also continues to bomb buildings in the neighbourhoods of Beit Lahiya and Jabalia.
Pope accused Israel of terrible crimes
Pope Francis said Israel was committing crimes against children in Gaza, accusing the IDF of “shooting children with machine guns” and “bombing schools and hospitals.” His words provoked a sharp reaction in Jerusalem.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry called Francis’ statements hypocritical, emphasising that the Pope ignored the brutality of Hamas terrorists who use children as human shields and hold hostages, including children.
Diaspora Minister Amihai Shikli accused the pontiff of spreading a false Palestinian narrative and noted that Israel has the moral right to protect its citizens and fight terrorism.
Israel stressed that its actions are aimed at fighting the terrorists responsible for the October 7 attack, which included massacres, kidnappings and rapes. The Foreign Ministry expressed disappointment with the Pope’s words, which it said distorted the facts and ignored the reality of the war on terrorism.
