DWD issues heavy snowfall warning across Germany

German authorities on Thursday warned of heavy snowfall in most parts of the country.

According to the German Meteorological Service (DWD), the snowfall is expected to continue across Germany. It warned drivers to avoid unnecessary journeys and drive carefully as roads are covered in ice.

DWD also warned residents in central and southern Germany of falling trees and flying objects.

Wind gusts are expected to reach 100 kilometres per hour (62 miles per hour) in Munich and 115 km/h in forested areas.

Temperatures will range from 0 to 6 °C (0 to 6 °F) in northern Germany and could rise to 14 °C (14 °F) in the south. The storm could reach an estimated speed of 100 kilometres per hour in Munich and 115 kilometres per hour in forested areas.
