Mike Krack, who led the Aston Martin team from 2022, stepped down after a disappointing season of Formula 1 racing, according to AP News.
The team said Friday that Krack would move to the new position of Chief Trackside Officer. He will now focus on “getting the most performance out of the car at the racetrack.”
Chief executive Andy Cowell will now take over the duties of the team principal. He previously led the Mercedes engine programme during the 2010s title-winning season. The Krack team will report to Cowell, as will the staff at Aston Martin’s headquarters in England.
Aston Martin finished fifth in the Constructors Cup in 2024, repeating the result in 2023. However, as Aston Martin aimed to win the title, a loss to rivals, such as McLaren and Ferrari, was seen as a step backwards.
The team is also expecting the arrival of a great car designer, Adrian Newey, in March. He left Red Bull last year and would hold the title of “managing technical partner.”
Aston Martin’s best result in 2024 was the fifth place by driver Fernando Alonso at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
