Tokyo police arrested a female student on Friday on suspicion of injuring eight people in a hammer attack on a university campus in suburban Tokyo, local authorities said.
The incident took place on January 10 in a Tokyo suburb. Information about the attack was received by the police around four o’clock in the afternoon – the caller noted that a female student with a hammer attacked students on the campus of Hosei University.
Students and faculty members inside the university were able to stop the attacker and held her until police arrived.
According to preliminary information, eight people were injured. They have minor injuries that do not require hospitalisation.
Now the police are investigating the motives that pushed the girl to commit the crime. Classes at the university have been temporarily suspended.
