US President Donald Trump and the CEOs of OpenAI, Softbank and Oracle announced a $100-billion investment in Stargate’s artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, pledging to reach $500 billion, according to Euractiv.
Trump said at a White House press briefing alongside OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son and Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison that Stargate was “the largest AI infrastructure project by far in history.”
The funding will establish up to 20 large data centres with dedicated computing capacity to create and use next-generation AI. The companies, together with technology investor MGX, have already committed $100 billion in funding and plan to increase investment to $500 billion over the next four years.
Meanwhile, the AI Factories initiative envisages joint EU funding of 1.96 billion euros ($2.04 billion). However, this is 250 times less than the amount proposed by the joint initiative of Trump and the CEOs.
Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle and OpenAI are key technology providers for Stargate, according to an OpenAI press release.
