Argentina’s Milei criticised Spain’s Sánchez for social media regulation aims

Argentine President Javier Milei lashed out at Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez at the World Economic Forum in Davos, criticising his latest proposal to regulate social media in the EU.

Milei said the socialist Sánchez simply wanted to silence those who disagreed with him. The Argentine leader called his proposal “censorship” and the idea of muting anyone who opposed “woke ideology.”

On Wednesday, PSOE leader Sánchez unveiled a series of measures to step up the EU’s crackdown on what he called the threat to democracy posed by social media and “the techno-billionaire,” presumably referring to Elon Musk.

Sánchez called for an end to anonymity on the internet and suggested that big tech giants such as X should be held accountable for what was shared on social media.

The Spanish prime minister’s statement angered former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont, who also condemned Sánchez for his “censorship” initiatives.
