North Korea conducts strategic missile test

North Korea has tested strategic cruise missiles, with leader Kim Jong Un personally overseeing the operation, according to KCNA reports on 25th January. The test showcased advancements in the nation’s defence systems.

Missile Test Details

The strategic cruise missiles, launched from underwater, travelled 1,500 kilometres before hitting their targets. Each missile flew for over two hours, KCNA stated. Kim described the operation as a demonstration of an “important weapon system.”

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff reported that the missiles were launched inland towards the western coast. This test supports North Korea’s broader plans to strengthen its national defence capabilities amid shifting regional tensions.

Response to the United States

North Korea’s foreign ministry has accused the United States of ignoring its sovereignty. The ministry blamed increasing tensions on joint military drills between South Korea and the US. It also vowed a firm response as long as Washington continued this stance.

Former US President Donald Trump, during a recent interview, suggested he might resume contact with Kim Jong Un. He referred to the working relationship developed during his presidency.

Kim affirmed that North Korea’s war deterrence strategies are improving, reiterating the goal of maintaining peace through military strength. He added that his country remains committed to its “important mission” of ensuring stability.

Earlier in January, Kim oversaw a successful test of a hypersonic ballistic missile. These tests are part of ongoing efforts to modernise North Korea’s military arsenal.
