New Zealand will introduce softer visa rules to allow travellers to work remotely while visiting the country, boosting the economy and tourism.
Immigration Minister Erica Stanford said the visitor visa would change from 27 January.
This is a brand-new market of tourist New Zealand can tap into. We want people to see our country as the ideal place to visit and work while they do it.
Stanford claimed digital visas were “extraordinarily popular” overseas, so New Zealand would target people who wanted to work and travel in the country.
I expect in their time here that they will spend longer than they normally would, they will spend more because they’re here for longer, and the thing that we’re really hoping, is that they fall in love with the place.
After the COVID-19 global pandemic, New Zealand’s economy has not fully recovered, especially the tourism sector. Minister of Economic Growth Nicola Willis stated that the relaxation of visa rules would help expand the country’s business opportunities.
