Princess Maria Laura of Belgium welcomed her first child

Maria Laura of Austria-Este, the 36-year-old princess of Belgium, became a mum for the first time on Sunday, local media reported.

The eldest daughter of Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz married Frenchman William Isvy in Brussels on September 10, 2022 wearing a gorgeous Vivienne Westwood gown and a Savoie-Aosta tiara in memory of her paternal grandmother. Two and a half years later, the couple had their first child, a boy.

The Royal Palace in Brussels announced the good news in a statement and shared the first photo of the newborn.

“The families of the young parents bond their happiness,” the palace wrote, which also specified that the child “is doing well, as is his mother.”

At birth, the baby weighed 3.5 kilograms. The palace did not specify the place of delivery.

Maria Laura and William live in London. The niece of King Philippe, works as an analyst in the climate change sector at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, while William works in the asset management sector.

The boy is the fourth grandson of Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz, and the fourth great-grandson of King Albert II and Queen Paola. Princess Maria Laura is 10th in the line of succession to the Belgian throne, while Albert Isvy was born in 11th place.

Princess Maria Laura carries both the title of Princess of Belgium on her mother’s side and the titles of the former Imperial family of Austria inherited from her father, Prince Lorenz, grandson of Emperor Charles the 1st of Austria.

Maria Laura is Archduchess of Austria, Princess of Hungary, the Czech Republic and Croatia. Prince Lorenz is also a pretender to the throne of the former Duchy of Modena, and therefore his children are the princes and princesses of Modena.
